This report is to map course of analysis some of the most important ideas of the anthropologist Clifford Geertz referred to their particular approach to the anti-relativist.
In the first part Professor Geertz brings to mind some of the words that served as the starting point for a number of texts at the time showed the emergence of a new fear for Western civilization. Where the intelligentsia referred to as cultural relativism that closely resembles unimaginable terror, relatively speaking of course, the old thesis of the ghost is haunting Europe, 1848. Now, from the beginning Geertz is cleared of any affinity with cultural relativism. From their perspective, the intellectual certifying that he is running scale clarify the concepts and action delimitation of cultural relativism and a deep analysis the feverish allegations of anti-relativist. It shows his resolute conviction to develop a deconstructive practice from the vantage point of the anti-anti-relativist. This implies a singular logic where the double negative is not directed parentage committed to the thesis of cultural relativism, but rather to achieve a neutral position on the topics for discussion. According to Geertz
relativistic thinking is cannon shot. Always harassed by the organic and functional systematic order. Just even demonized and accused of nihilism. The scientific community of the status quo has made a furious attack on the seed anthropological discourse relativistic. Is it a new crusade in search of Knights Templar knowledge and imposing symbols of systemic order on behalf of universal reason?. Or perhaps the ecstasy produced by the known part of the intellectual establishment to utter about the habits of native cultures: "What a way to live so awful!". It reappears with nineteenth-century racism, which was also the political agenda of most imperial states.
In this dynamic comes to carving the conception of human nature as an element shaft to demolish the argument of cultural relativism. But from the perspective of Geertz this theoretical construct is anti-relativist only a reduction in the major categories and areas of action, not only of man but of society, and absolute totalizing discourse of Western reason.
Quite the contrary, from a concern about provincialism end relativists strengthening cultural diversity and heterogeneity of peoples. Thus, Geertz concludes that to realize the advancement of science is necessary to get rid of those mental formulas outlined part of the story, but now are forming an obstacle to a different vision and foresight of reality.
